Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about the Sellinger Scholars Program

How many students are in each cohort?

Each cohort typically consists of around 45 students.

Are student-athletes able to participate and succeed in the Sellinger Scholars Program?

Yes! Many of our Sellinger Scholars are also student-athletes. We work closely with the athletics department to support student-athletes in balancing their academic and athletic commitments.

When will I be notified if I’m admitted to the Scholars Program?
  • Early Action applicants (application deadline is Dec. 15) will receive decisions by February 1
  • Regular Decision applicants (application deadline is March 15) will receive decisions by April 1

Can I apply to the program if I am undecided on a specific business major?

Yes, you can apply as a Business Undecided major. We encourage exploration of various disciplines within business.

Can international students apply to the Sellinger Scholars Program?

Absolutely! We welcome international students in every cohort.

What GPA is required to remain a Sellinger Scholar?

Scholars are required to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 to remain in the program.

Do AP, IB, or community college credits count towards program requirements?

Yes. AP, IB, and community college credits can be applied towards certain business courses such as EC 102, EC 103, EC 220, and MA 151/251.

Can I transfer into the Sellinger Scholars Program if I’m already a business major at Loyola?

No. Unfortunately, internal transfers are not allowed. The only entry point into the program is during your first year at Loyola.

Is there a separate application for the Sellinger Scholars Program?
Do Scholars receive priority registration for housing or classes?

No. Scholars do not receive priority registration for housing or classes. However, the business honors courses (BH) required for the program are reserved and guaranteed for Scholars.

Are there any scholarships specifically for Sellinger Scholars?

No. There are no specific scholarships for the program. Scholars are encouraged to complete the FAFSA and apply for university financial aid.

Can I double major or pursue an academic minors while in the Sellinger Scholars Program?

Yes! Students often double major within the Sellinger School or with other disciplines beyond business at Loyola. Many Scholars also choose to pursue minors.

Is study abroad possible while in the Sellinger Scholars Program?

Yes! Study abroad is encouraged, and the curriculum in the junior year is designed to accommodate a semester or even a full year abroad.

Can I enroll in more than one honors program at Loyola?

Yes, Sellinger Scholars may also be enrolled in other honors programs, such as Hyman Science Scholars, Ignatius Scholars Program, Loyola’s Honors Program, or the forthcoming McAuley Scholars Program. Academic advisors and the Sellinger Scholars Program director work directly with to students to ensure they can meet the requirements for multiple programs.
