Ignatius Scholars Program

Your Education. Your Loyola. Your First Steps.

The Ignatius Scholars Program is a supportive, high-impact experience designed to empower first-year students who show strong academic promise and leadership potential. While open to all incoming students, this program is especially helpful for those who are first-generation college students or demonstrate financial need.

Each year, a select group of students are chosen to begin their Loyola journey through this engaging, two-part experience co-sponsored by the Thrive Center for Student Success and the Office of Undergraduate Studies.

A Head Start on College Success

The Ignatius Scholars Program (ISP) consists of two components:

Summer Residential Experience

Before the academic year begins, Ignatius Scholars live on campus and participate in academic workshops, reading/writing and math sessions, and community-building activities. You’ll connect with faculty, meet fellow scholars, learn about key resources, and explore Baltimore through fun excursions. Room and board are included, and all participants receive a $125 stipend at the end of the session.

Fall Semester Support

In the fall, you’ll continue to receive academic coaching, attend bi-weekly group sessions, and take part in Messina, Loyola’s living-learning program for all first-year students. You’ll develop strong study habits, meet regularly with your advisor and mentors, and receive personalized support throughout your transition to college.

From the first day I stepped on campus, I felt seen and heard, and it was so easy to call Loyola my home.

I chose Loyola because I could really tell the school was built on a sense of community. As an international and first-generation student, the Ignatius Scholars Program made my transition feel welcoming and manageable by giving me time to settle in and build connections before classes began. Through ISP, I formed my closest friendships, built meaningful relationships with faculty and support staff, and found the confidence to grow into a leader who now supports other students.
