Mission, Vision & Values
Mission Statement
The Sellinger Scholars Program is a cohort-based, leadership development honors curriculum in business administration that integrates a servant leadership model. The program provides academic rigor along with a supportive learning environment for outstanding business students utilizing exceptional faculty as teachers, advisors, and mentors. Students develop an understanding of leadership, social responsibility, and reflection upon personal and professional choices. The program partners with Baltimore’s non-profit and corporate sectors to create positive impact for a more just and equitable world. Sellinger Scholars emerge from this program with the skills and desire to think critically, evaluate holistically, and be leaders of transformative change.
Philosophy and Values
The Sellinger Scholars Program adheres to the Jesuit values of cura personalis: cultivating the whole person, mind, body, and spirit; magis: dedication to the greater good for the whole person; commitment to ethical behavior; and justice and equal opportunity for all people.
The program’s philosophy is predicated on each member being willing to learn and lead at the highest level, acting as Sellinger School of Business and Management emissaries to the Loyola community and the Baltimore community at large. It is expected that students in this honors program will commit to foster and support the well-being of their fellow students and embrace opportunities for leadership while at Loyola and beyond, thus representing Loyola’s mission to lead with love and fight for justice while being the best place in the world from which to change the world.
The program views each student as a vessel of growth and change and therefore aims to utilize all academic and non-academic resources to provide the foundation for students to realize their best selves. Developing the qualities of strength, resilience, and dedication to life-long learning in our students during their undergraduate careers at Loyola prepares our alumni to successfully adapt to a constantly changing business environment.
Vision
The Sellinger Scholars Program envisions fully engaged cohorts which lead the Sellinger School of Business and Managment at Loyola University Maryland in both academic excellence and service to the Baltimore community. This program will become one of the premier business honors programs among Loyola’s Jesuit peer institutions. The program should produce alumni who become exceptional business leaders and embody the Ignatian tradition of forming people “for and with others,” transcending goals of money, fame, and success. In addition, alumni will elect to maintain their Loyola connection through mentoring and advising students in the program.
