The Center for Education, Leadership, and Social Justice Education event Black Educators in Urban Schools was a huge success with featured speaker Dr. Camika Royal, Associate Professor of Urban Education in the Loyola School of Education. Dr. Royal was discussing her new book, Not Paved For Us: Black Educators and Public School Reform in Philadelphia (Harvard Education Press, 2022).

Panelists included:

  • Gloria Ladson-Billings, noted pedagogical theorist, anthropologist of education, and professor emerita at the University of Wisconsin
  • Sabriya Jubiliee, the first chief of the office of equity for the School District of Philadelphia
  • Tanefa Wallace, Baltimore City educator
  • Vanessa Dodo Seriki, panel moderator and Morgan State University professor
