Minor in Special Education

The minor in special education is designed to provide students with the skills needed for working with children with exceptionalities. The minor consists of a series of five courses and one field experience. Two of the five courses satisfy major requirements for Elementary Education.

The minor in special education is open to all majors. Non-education majors must complete five additional courses- four required and a choice for the fifth. These courses can be found in the Academic Catalogue. Students pursuing elementary and special education dual licensure are required to take four special education classes in addition to those required for the elementary education major. A specialized internship with experiences in both general education and special education is required for dual licensure candidates.

Declaring a Minor

Undergraduate students interested in pursuing the minor must schedule an appointment to meet with the special education minor advisor before declaring the minor.

Students who wish to add, change, or drop a minor must submit a Change of Minor form to the Office of the Registrar (MH 141). Be sure to get all the signatures required prior to submitting this form. The Change of Minor form is available on the Office of the Registrar website under forms, or in the Office of the Registrar (MH 141).
