Curriculum Components

Classroom

The Sellinger Scholars Program has two primary components:

  1. Curricular Coursework: Sellinger Scholars students take the required Sellinger foundational courses together as a cohort which fulfill degree requirements for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA or Bachelor of Science in Finance). The required coursework offers increased rigor in the form of outside reading, discussion, and class presentations. Sellinger Scholars program foundational courses are sequenced and designed to allow for greater interaction with faculty and classmates.
  2. Internship Preparation Course and Sellinger Scholars Senior Seminar: The Internship Preparation Course (BH 196) taken in the first year is designed to prepare students to research, apply, and obtain at least one (1) internship during their undergraduate years at Loyola. The Sellinger Scholars Senior Seminar (BH 199) is designed to prepare students for their post-graduate lives with participation in an immersive, overnight retreat focused on Ignatian values. A cumulative project closes the loop from their first year at Loyola as they discern how they have grown as individuals and as a cohort. Scholars also complete required community service each year and take part in mentor-mentee pairings.

Activities include:

  • Skills-based training
  • Guest lecturers
  • Site visits to area businesses
  • Community service
