Biography
Carrie Horwitz Lang, M.Ed., is the Director of Montessori Education and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Loyola University Maryland. She leads Loyola’s graduate Montessori pathways, including the M.Ed. in Montessori Education and the Credit for Prior Learning program and collaborates with national and international Montessori training centers to expand access to advanced degrees for Montessori professionals.
Carrie brings more than 20 years of Montessori experience as a certified teacher, special educator, and school administrator, holding diplomas in both Primary and Elementary Montessori education. Her expertise spans program development, accreditation, inclusive pedagogy, and educational leadership. At Loyola, she is focused initiatives to strengthen partnerships with training centers, align graduate learning outcomes with MACTE and AAQEP standards, and create innovative models of professional preparation that honor the Montessori philosophy while advancing equity and inclusive practice.
Her research and professional interests focus on the intersections of Montessori pedagogy, inclusive leadership, and teacher identity formation. She has presented nationally on topics including reflective leadership in adult learning and adult learning in an online setting. In addition, she is developing workshops and initiatives that encourage Montessori educators to engage in the inner work of self-awareness and reflection as a foundation for building inclusive, connected school communities through coaching and strength based organizational methods.
As a founding member of Baltimore’s first public Montessori charter school, Carrie has firsthand experience in bridging Montessori philosophy with the realities of public education systems. She continues to support initiatives that cultivate leadership, strengthen community partnerships, and expand access to high-quality Montessori education.
Carrie serves on boards and committees advancing Montessori education, inclusive practices, and educational change. Through her teaching, leadership, and collaborations, she is committed to empowering diverse voices in Montessori education, cultivating cultures of belonging, and preparing the next generation of educators and leaders to center the dignity and potential of every child.
