Biography

Mary Kate Schneider, Ph.D., is Director of Global Studies and Lecturer of Political Science. She holds a Ph.D. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, an M.A. in Political Science from Lehigh University, and a B.A. in Political Science and B.S. in Psychology from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. She was a 2013-14 Fulbright research grant recipient to Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH), where she has conducted extensive fieldwork on institutional design and peacebuilding amongst youth. She has also received grants from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) and IREX. Prior to joining the faculty at Loyola in 2015, she taught at the University of Maryland and was a research fellow with the Global Europe program at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC. Her research—like the Global Studies program—is inherently interdisciplinary. It addresses themes of conflict, security, institutions, identity, nationalism, and post-conflict peace and reconciliation, and her regional expertise lies in the Western Balkans (with a recent foray into East Africa).
