Program Details:
Caribbean Ecosystem Field Studies is a 21-day, 3 undergraduate credit field course that teaches fundamental concepts in ecosystem science and skills in hands-on research methods. Caribbean EcoFS immerses students in a spectacular marine ecosystem setting and engages in active investigations that includes scientific observation, data collection, and the implementation of an individual research project.

This course, ENST 391, is open to 20 undergraduate students in an ecosystem related major from throughout the US, Canada and beyond and is accredited by the Environmental Studies Program of the University of Montana at Missoula (UM). Steve Johnson, EcoFS Director, serves as Instructor and the TA’s direct supervisor. TA Duties
Primary academic responsibilities include:
* create & grade daily homework assignments, plus grading of final paper & exam (due after course end)
* facilitate students in all aspects of their individual field research project
* teach lessons on the scientific method, field sampling techniques, data analysis & other course concepts based on TA strengths
Secondary responsibilities include:
* facilitate group dynamics and student safety/comfort
* assist daily instruction and serve as a reliable backup to the Instructor.
 
Qualifications
* Candidates in process of completion of a Master’s degree, or higher academic level
* Must have strong field ecosystem research background and advanced ecosystem related data analysis skills
* Prior Teaching Assistant experience a plus
* Strong marine skills in snorkeling (not required to be SCUBA certified/experienced but a plus) 
* Knowledge of Caribbean coral reef ecosystem
 
TA Pay
$4,500, includes all on-course expenses: meals, accommodations, activities, in-country transportation. TA pays for airfare to/from Cancun airport

Note -EcoFS is also looking for an Assistant TA position. If applicant does not possess the necessary background for the TA position we will consider for Assistant TA.  Assistant TA supports TA & Instructor in all areas of grading, project facilitation, small group supervision, and logistical support.
Assistant TA Pay
