Fall 2024 Budget Tutorials
Please note that as of Fall 2024, there have been updates to the budget request submission process, a summary of which is below.
- A complete tutorial for the new budget request process, including instructions for submitting Messina requests in WorkDay, can be found in Teams.
- View a recording of our Live WorkDay Expense Report Walkthrough, covering information specifically for Messina requests
Fall 2024 Budget Process
- STEP 1 (All Working Group Members): All requests should still initially be submitted through the Logistical Request Form
- STEP 2 (Faculty and Mentors ONLY): Any requests with receipts (reimbursements and p-card budget adjustments) should also be submitted as an Expense
Report via WorkDay
- Note that any students who need a reimbursement will submit the full request using only the Logistical Request Form
- Messina will only approve the request once all necessary forms have been completed. Upon approval, your group will receive a confirmation email noting your remaining balance for the semester.
- Please allow approximately 2-3 business days for budget requests to be completed, starting once the Messina office has received your full request.
- Note that for p-card requests you do not need to wait until you have received your statement to submit copies of receipts to Messina. It is strongly recommended that groups submit p-card receipts as you make the purchases, to avoid having all submissions at the end of the month. You will receive an email confirmation of your request.
WorkDay Resources
The following training materials may be helpful to review in order to familiarize yourself with the necessary WorkDay vocabulary and processes:
Transportation Requests
- Submitted using the Logistical Request Form
- Any transportation requests should be submitted at least one month in advance of your planned enrichment session.
- If your group needs to make any changes to your request, they must be submitted no later than 5 business days prior to your reservation.
- If your group needs to cancel your transportation, please be sure to do so at least 48 hours prior to your reservation time. If your reservation is on a Sunday, your group must request cancellation no later than 9 a.m. on Friday. Cancellations after this will still count as your group's outing for the semester, as Messina is not refunded for cancellations after this deadline. Exceptions may be made for changes that are out of your group's control, such as inclement weather, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
If you have any questions about these submissions, please contact messina@loyola.edu or call 410-617-2669.
Request an Enrichment Session Facilitator
See the table below with information on requesting a facilitator for your enrichment session. Please contact messina@loyola.edu if you or your department would like to be added to the contact list.
ALANA
ALANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Native American) Services is available to facilitate interactive and engaging conversations focused on intercultural and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion)-related topics for Messina enrichment hours. Topics may range from inclusive and belonging practices for underrepresented and marginalized students, intersectional identities, as well as navigating conversations centered around racial and social justice issues. To request a staff person from ALANA to facilitate a conversation with your enrichment hour, please complete our Facilitator Request Form.
Contact the ALANA Services office at alana@loyola.edu or 410-617-2310 with any questions or for more information.
AI Literacy
The Loyola-Notre Dame Library has created a series of interactive online tutorials in Moodle related to AI literacy [AI Literacy @ LNDL]. We will also offer a fifty-minute session on AI literacy that will provide ongoing opportunities for students to educate themselves on AI tools and the issues connected with the use of those tools. Much like the “For Students” page on our Artificial Intelligence guide, we approach AI from a neutral standpoint and encourage students to talk with their professors for guidance about their specific classes.
Contact Jennie Ray with any questions or for more information about setting up a session.
Academic Integrity
Contact Mark Lee (mslee@loyola.edu) to schedule a presentation for your Messina class on academic integrity. The Honor Council has crafted a 50-minute presentation covering the Honor Code, including a significant interactive component about understanding and recognizing plagiarism. The presentation also includes advice about the use of AI and avoiding academic dishonesty. Sessions are led by Mark and / or an Honor Council student chair. A 3-minute video description of the module can be found here: https://youtu.be/a9XATfFCGc4
Campus Ministry (Ignatian Examen)
Campus Ministry is happy to lead the Ignatian Examen for Messina Enrichments sessions. These sessions will be led by Campus Ministry Interns and will speak briefly about an introduction to Ignatian and Jesuit Spirituality and the opportunities in Campus Ministry. Please reach out to Mark Dushel (mdushel@loyola.edu) to schedule a time for your enrichment session.
Career Center
Working groups should schedule their enrichment session with the Career Center at least two weeks in advance. Learn more and access the scheduling form by vising the Career Center's Messina Working Groups webpage.
Counseling Center
The Outreach request form should be completed at least 2-3 weeks in advance of the enrichment session. The Counseling Center may not always be able to guarantee staff availability to cover outreach requests, especially during times of high clinical demand, so the earlier requests are submitted, the better!
Financial Literacy Session
If interested in doing an enrichment session around financial literacy, contact JP Krahel at jkrahel@loyola.edu or 717-746-8857 to schedule a presentation for your Messina class. He's got a 50-minute, interactive presentation ready to go on taxes, debt, and retirement saving.
Fitness and Aquatic Center (FAC)
Messina working groups may request to use the FAC during enrichment hours or another scheduled class time for the following activities: self-guided tour, organized sports, group exercise class, outdoor trip, team building, fitness demonstrations, or indoor climbing. Requests may be made via email. See the Department of Recreation and Wellness reservation webpage for contact information.
LoyolaVotes
To request a LoyolaVotes Ambassador, contact Tim Clark or Kate Grubb Clark at least two weeks prior to your requested session date.
National Fellowships
The Office of National Fellowships has a variety of opportunities available for all majors and class years! Contact Terre Ryan, Director of National Fellowships at tmryan@loyola.edu to coordinate a session for your students.
The Study
Members of the Learning Support team are excited to join Messina Enrichment groups to facilitate discussions and provide guidance on a variety of topics, including concentration and memory, critical thinking, note-taking, procrastination, reading comprehension, studying smarter, test-taking, syllabus guidance, and time management. Each topic includes an exploration about how the brain works and the fascinating ways we learn. Requests may be emailed to Dr. Khadduri (jfkhadduri@loyola.edu), Director of Learning Support.

More information coming soon!
Sustainability Office
Members from the Office of Sustainability can present on a wide variety of topics relating to sustainability from Sustainability at Loyola, Sustainability Engagement Opportunities, Environmental Justice, etc. To learn more and schedule a visit, please complete our Course Visit Request form via the Bridge. For questions, please email sustainability@loyola.edu.
The Writing Center
Are you looking to introduce your students to the Loyola Writing Center (LWC)? We offer two options:
- Classroom Visits: LWC tutors can visit your class (5-30 minutes) to introduce writing support services or facilitate writing activities.
- Individualized Referrals: Mention the LWC in your syllabus to encourage students to visit. For challenging assignments, please email us the assignment sheet and class size (LWC@loyola.edu, or dmicer@loyola.edu) for specific assignment support so tutors can prepare effectively.
We can also help identify students who might benefit from ongoing support. Faculty can request follow-up reports from tutors by having students ask for them during their sessions.
Note: Find out more on the LWC website!
