An Advisory Board provides ongoing stewardship for the development and implementation of Messina.

Messina Advisory Board Charge

The Messina Advisory Board is an ongoing board. The charge of the Board is to serve in an advisory capacity to the Messina professional staff, concerning the stewardship of Messina for all first-year students in all of its aspects: curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular. The Board is responsible for providing strategic feedback for the Messina program. Board members will represent their area of campus regarding Messina events, first-year student concerns and trends, and the integration of the living and learning aspects of the program. The Board will also assist with selection of Annual Award recipients, and interviewing candidates for any open positions in the Messina office, including the Faculty Co-Director position. The Board will provide support for the co-directors of Messina regarding reports to the Provost/ Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Student Development, and the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.

  • Faculty (5; one from each Division, for a three-year term, to be appointed by the Faculty Affairs Committee in consultation with the Co-Directors)
  • Dean of Undergraduate Studies
  • Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies
  • Director of the Honors Program 
  • Director of Residence Life and Housing 
  • Office of Student Engagement representative
  • Student Development representative
  • Office of Mission Integration representative 
  • Center for Community, Service, and Justice representative
  • Students (2), ordinarily a representative of SGA and the Evergreen Program

Faculty members of this committee are appointed by Faculty Affairs in consultation with the faculty co-director of Messina for three years.
