Theology Matters (TH 201)

C.S. Lewis said, "If you do not listen to Theology, that will not mean that you have no ideas about God. It will mean that you have a lot of wrong ones - bad, muddled, out-of-date ideas." He was right. By reviewing aspects of biblical, historical, and contemporary theology, this course will give you the tools to sort out what you believe and why.  

Faculty biography

Dr. Arthur Sutherland is an Associate Professor of Theology at Loyola. He has advanced degrees from Yale University Divinity School and Princeton Theological Seminary. He is concerned about the intersection of Christian thought and the ethics of everyday life 

Microeconomic Principles (EC 102)

Investigates how individuals in market economies make decisions about what goods will be produced, how they will be produced, and for whom they will be produced. Students learn to analyze the impacts of changes in markets; illustrate the concepts of consumer demand and production; and explain the process of profit maximization under various market structures. Topics include the laws of supply and demand; behavior of firms in competitive and noncompetitive markets; functioning of labor and capital markets; poverty and income inequality; economics and the environment; economic systems in other countries.

Mentor biography

Barbara Kurz was born in Brazil but claims Kansas City as home. Barbara joined the Loyola community as the Associate Director of Messina in February 2022, and is now excited to serve as the Director of Messina. Prior to joining Loyola, Barbara served as the Assistant Director of Housing Facilities at Johns Hopkins University. Barbara has a strong background in Student Life, student development, and leadership development. Working with first year students has always been a passion for Barbara and she is thrilled to work with Messina students. Outside of work, Barbara enjoys being a “foodie” and trying out new restaurants with her partner, reading, and spending time with her dog, Ellie.

This pairing is recommended for students considering a major in the Sellinger School of Business.  EC*102 satisfies a core social science requirement for Sellinger business students.  EC*102 is not recommended for students considering a major in Psychology, Sociology or Political Science.
