Summer Programs
In addition to our semester, year-long, and study tour options, Loyola also offers a number of independent and faculty-led summer programs. There is a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA requirement for all summer programs. For questions concerning summer study abroad program fees, please reach out to Yvette McMillan-Bell in Student Administrative Services (SAS) in Maryland Hall. Accepted students will have one meeting and one pre-departure orientation with their program director to review paperwork, safety measures, packing details, and all necessary information prior to departure.
The philosophy of Loyola's Office of International Programs is to provide students with an in-depth experience of another culture by focusing on one program. Therefore, programs like Semester at Sea and similar programs would not be acceptable. The Office of International Programs must approve any international program that a student wishes to obtain credits from while at Loyola University Maryland.

Non-Loyola Programs
Students have the option to select a non-Loyola summer program. The program selected should fit into their academic course of study. Once students have selected a study abroad program, they should do the following:
- Students must have their non-Loyola program approved by the Office of International Programs.
- Students must complete the Summer Abroad Program Approval/Transfer Course Request Form by March 11.
- Summer programs abroad must be offered through an American university or an American organization providing a U.S. final transcript.
- Students may take a maximum of two, 3- or 4-credit courses (along with any associated 1-credit labs) away during the summer.
- Students on non-Loyola semester programs may not take summer courses away from Loyola University.
- Business courses should be taken at AACSB-accredited institutions.
- Distance-learning and/or on-line courses are not accepted as transfer credit for study abroad.
- Summer transfer courses must equal, credit-for-credit, Loyola courses. (Example: a 4-credit course at Loyola requires taking a 4-credit course at the away institution.)
- A grade of C (2.00) or better is required in each course to transfer courses and credits. Grades do not transfer, but are used to calculate Honors at graduation.
- Summer transfer courses cannot overlap with the Loyola academic term during which the student is enrolled.
- Students must complete at least 20, three-or-four credit courses at Loyola. Of the last 20 courses, 15 must be taken at Loyola. Five of the last 7 courses and at least one-half of the courses in the major and minor field must be taken at Loyola. (Loyola University Maryland’s Residency Requirement can be found on the Undergraduate Catalogue.)
