Location: Loyola University Maryland, 4th Floor Programming Room

Community partners, staff, and faculty at the May 2023 CCSJ workshop.

Each May, Loyola hosts an all-day workshop to reinvigorate community-engaged learning and scholarship in Baltimore. This event is an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the area and imagine new possibilities for university-community partnerships. The workshop is open to faculty and community-engagement learning professionals from other universities as well as community partners.

This year’s theme is “Working Toward Place-Based Justice” We will explore ways of designing courses and research agendas in a way that centers the York Road Corridor and the city of Baltimore. There will be opportunities for community members and university members to collaborate with one another and envision specific projects for the future. In conjunction with this workshop, CCSJ is offering Course-Development Grants to support new courses rooted in place-based justice.

Our workshop will feature Dr. Jamilah Ducar, who is a nationally-recognized leader in community engagement. Dr. Ducar is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for The Engaged University at the University of Pittsburgh, where she oversees a range of programs connecting Pitt and its neighbors in meaningful, collaborative ways. She is also the Chair of the Place-Based Justice Network, a national organization.

There is no cost to attend the event. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
