AP, IB, A-Levels, and College Courses
Advanced Placement Exams
Loyola awards credit for appropriate performance on the Advanced Placement (AP) tests administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). In order to qualify for credit based on AP tests, students must have the scores sent directly to Loyola from ETS. Each academic department at Loyola determines the qualifying scores and the amount of credit awarded for its discipline. Please reference this AP score chart as a guide to determine which courses you may receive credit for. A maximum of one year of credit may be earned through examination.
Loyola typically receives AP scores in late July. Students will be notified in writing (via Loyola email) by the Academic Advising and Support Center whether or not credit has been awarded.
International Baccalaureate Credit
Loyola awards credit for high-level IB courses in which a grade of six or seven is earned. Upon receipt of official notification of these scores, the AASC will work with the appropriate academic department to determine which, if any, credit should be awarded. A maximum of one year of credit may be earned through examination.
British A-Level Exams
Ordinarily, A-Level examinations will be reviewed for 3-6 transfer credits, each, upon receipt of the following documents:
- An official results certificate, indicating that the exam was A-Level and that the grade earned is a D or above (which is equivalent to a US grade of C).
- If needed to determine transferability, an official course description and/or syllabus detailing course outcomes.
Dual Enrollment/Transfer Credit from High School
College-level work done prior to high school graduation will be reviewed for transfer credit eligibility upon receipt of the following documents:
- an official, seal-bearing transcript from a regionally accredited college/university, indicating the credits received for the course and that the grade earned is a C or above; and
- if needed to determine transferability, an official course description and/or syllabus detailing the course outcomes.
Each supporting document is to be sent to the Academic Advising and Support Center.
A maximum of one year of credit may be earned through the combination of dual enrollment credits, AP credits, IB credits, and/or A-Level credits.
