Interdisciplinary Studies Option
Loyola University Maryland’s interdisciplinary studies option provide students the flexibility and academic freedom to combine interest in two discrete academic disciplines into a single academic major. Students may choose from a list of approved academic program combinations or work with professors from two academic disciplines to customize their pathway. Students interested in the interdisciplinary option are encouraged to express their interest and intentions with Academic Advising.
Approved Interdisciplinary Major Pathways
Students pursing an established interdisciplinary major pathway must declare their major by completing the declaration of major form or change of major form, receiving faculty department chair signatures from both academic areas of interest before submitting to academic advising and the Office of the Registrar.

- Interdisciplinary Major in Biology/Psychology (Biopsychology)
- Interdisciplinary Major in Biology/Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Major in Communication
- Interdisciplinary Major in Computer Science
- Interdisciplinary Major in Leadership and Management Consulting/Psychology
- Interdisciplinary Major in Mathematics, Differential Equations/Mathematical Modeling Track
- Interdisciplinary Major in Mathematics, Discrete/Algorithmic Track
- Interdisciplinary Major in Philosophy
- Interdisciplinary Major in Psychology
- Interdisciplinary Major in Sociology
- Interdisciplinary Major in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Major in Statistics
- Interdisciplinary Major in Theology
- Interdisciplinary Major in Writing
- Interdisciplinary Major in Visual Arts/Other
Looking For Your Areas of Study?
Students seeking an academic option not listed must receive approval from academic advising and the department chairs of both disciplines. Please note that not all disciplines are eligible. Schedule a consultation with academic advising to discuss your options.
