Loyola recognized nationally for environmental sustainability
Loyola University Maryland was recognized among the nation’s top institutions for environmental sustainability in The Princeton Review’s “Guide to Green Colleges: 2025 Edition,” with a Green Rating of 93/99. The guide recognizes schools that foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
“As a Jesuit university, we are called to care for our common home and to be good stewards of our campus, our community, and our planet for future generations,” said Tracy Harvey, Ph.D., sustainability director. “At Loyola, we answer this call each day by prioritizing sustainable practices and cultivating a culture of sustainability across campus.”
Loyola assembled the Sustainability Committee to lead the University’s efforts to care for the environment, including establishing a comprehensive climate action plan and green building and energy management policies. Loyola works to reduce waste, maintains an accredited arboretum and native gardens, and partners with the community to run a farmers market. In addition, students can earn Maryland’s first Bachelor of Business Administration in sustainability management and minor in environmental studies.
Loyola’s strategic plan, Together We Rise, calls for the University to enhance its commitment to caring for our planet and people through prioritizing sustainable practices that create positive change.
The Princeton Review chose the schools in the “Guide to Green Colleges” based on surveys of administrators at nearly 600 colleges during the 2023-24 academic year. Editors analyzed more than 25 survey data points to select the 511 schools for the guide. The schools were selected for their exceptional programs, policies, and practices related to sustainability and the environment. The Princeton Review also recognized Loyola among the nation’s top institutions for undergraduates in the “Best 390 Colleges: 2025 Edition” earlier this year.
