Loyola recognized as top Fulbright-producing institution
Loyola University Maryland was honored on the list of U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most Fulbright students for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Loyola, which has received this recognition twice before, is among the top 6 Top Producing Institutions for Fulbright U.S. Students in the Master’s classification. Four Loyola graduates received Fulbright awards in 2023 and traveled to Laos, Peru, the United Kingdom, and Spain’s Canary Islands. Two Loyola graduates received Fulbright awards in 2022.
The U.S. Department of State, which releases the list of top-producing institutions annually, manages the Fulbright program, the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program.
“Loyola’s rigorous academic programs prepare our students for professional service and leadership,” says Terre Ryan, Ph.D., associate professor of writing and director of Loyola’s National Fellowships Office. “Our Fulbrighters are teachers, graduate students, and goodwill ambassadors who are determined to use their Loyola education for the greater good.”
The Fulbright program facilitates cultural exchange in more than 140 countries around the world through opportunities to engage in research in a foreign country or teach English and American culture to students. Through engagement in the community, students interact with their hosts on a one-on-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, promoting mutual understanding.
“Loyola University Maryland’s designation as a Fulbright Top Producing Institution clearly demonstrates your dedication to promoting global engagement and mutual understanding among the peoples and nations of the world,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken wrote in a congratulatory letter to Loyola.
Loyola will be recognized at a reception celebrating top Fulbright-producing institutions on Feb. 20 during the Association of International Education Administrators annual conference in Washington, D.C.
