Loyola introduces new MBA specializations in AI and real estate

Sellinger School of Business in autumn

The Sellinger School of Business and Management is introducing two new specializations in the part-time Professional’s MBA program: Applied Artificial Intelligence and Real Estate. Beginning in Spring 2027, the new specializations will give students the opportunity to customize their MBA experience and develop deeper knowledge and skills in fields shaping today’s business environment.

"We are excited to expand the Professional’s MBA with two new specializations in Applied AI and Real Estate, giving students more opportunities to tailor their graduate education to their career goals," said Mary Ann Scully, MBA '79, dean of the Sellinger School. "Loyola is among the first universities in Maryland to focus on the business applications of AI. Our real estate program leverages the deep experience of both our faculty and of one of the most robust networks of real estate professionals to come together to mentor and connect students. These additions reflect our commitment to helping working professionals develop relevant expertise and apply it in meaningful ways."

Applied Artificial Intelligence

The Applied Artificial Intelligence specialization prepares professionals to apply AI, machine learning, and business strategy to workplace challenges and opportunities. Students explore how AI can improve organizational productivity, enhance customer value, support data-driven decision-making and create new opportunities for growth and innovation. The specialization also emphasizes responsible innovation, with students examining algorithmic bias, transparency, data privacy, accountability, governance, and the societal impacts of automated decision-making. Through case studies and applied projects, students develop the skills to evaluate the benefits and risks of AI adoption and implement ethical AI practices across industries.

Real Estate

The Real Estate specialization provides students with a broad understanding of the business, financial and regulatory dimensions of real estate. Students explore the development and repositioning of real estate assets, including market analysis, feasibility, financing, project risk, and investment decisions. The curriculum also examines real estate law and regulation, including zoning, land use, property rights and regulatory approvals, while providing opportunities to explore emerging topics such as real estate technology, sustainability, affordable housing, urban redevelopment and changing demographic and economic conditions.

“Real estate shapes every community we live and work in," saidKarylLeggio, Ph.D., professor of finance and director or the Real Estate Program. "Our new graduate specialization gives Sellinger students the analytical tools, industry connections, and ethical grounding to lead in one of the region’s most dynamic sectors.”

Professional's MBA

The new Applied Artificial Intelligence and Real Estate specializations will join Sellinger’s existing Professional’s MBA specializations, which include Data Analytics and Digital Technologies, Finance, Interdisciplinary Business, Management, and Marketing.

Loyola designed the Professional’s MBA program for busy professionals seeking to advance or change their careers, broaden their perspectives and expand their options. Through specialized coursework and experiential learning opportunities, students develop practical skills while building perspectives and connections to help them navigate a changing business environment.
