Teaching Enhancement Workshop January 2023

"Level Up Your Teaching," Thursday, January 12, 2023 -Virtual

Program | TEW Committee | Past Workshops

Each new semester is an opportunity to try new things in the classroom. The January 2023 TEW sessions are designed to help you "level up" your teaching without stretching you too thin. That's the win-win that we all need for the new year.

RSVP to tew@loyola.edu.

Schedule of events

9:30 - 10:45 a.m.

Community-Engaged Pedagogy

In this session, you’ll be able to choose between two breakout rooms, each presenting multiple ways of incorporating community engagement into your work. In one breakout room, panelists will focus on community-engaged teaching, with a particular emphasis on upcoming opportunities for Spring ’23. In the other, panelists will provide an introduction to community-engaged scholarship. We’ll explore ways to connect your own research agenda with community partners and consider strategies for supporting student research, a high-impact practice. These two conversations will feature CCSJ staff and Loyola faculty with experience doing this work as teachers and as researchers. You’ll also learn about institutional support for community engagement via Kolvenbach grants and other opportunities from ORSP, CCSJ, and the Center for Equity, Leadership, and Social Justice.

Win-Win Teaching Strategies

This session will highlight teaching strategies that benefit student learning and lighten the professor’s workload. You’ll be able to choose between two breakout rooms. The first will feature Loyola’s experts in course design who will offer guidance on how to make your materials and activities easy for students to navigate and easy for you to manage. Friction with students can minimized through thoughtful course design. The second breakout will outline specific activities that (i) engage students’ varied backgrounds (ii) encourage students to interact with you, the content and each other. These learning activities improve student learning and also reduce class prep time. Work less for better results? Sounds good to us!
