Plenary: Timeless Placeless Come and contemplate this broad overview of how the world has changed due to technology. We no longer go to the bank during banking hours; we bank 24 hours a day from anywhere by depositing checks or transferring money with our smartphones. Looking at the classroom of 100 years ago and today, in many cases one would not see much difference - an instructor at the front of the class, students writing notes, all in the same place at the same time. Through web conferencing, however, students can learn synchronously from anywhere on the planet. With asynchronous use of recorded video, forums, or VoiceThread, students can learn anywhere, anytime. Should not teaching and learning adapt to our new world? Join in on the discussion of this important question and other salient issues of digital teaching and learning. Fostering a Community of Inquiry- Maryland Hall 241 How can digital pedagogy help foster student-student connection, student-instructor connection, and student-content connection? Presenter: Kelly Keane (Education Specialties) 2. Zooming into Synchronous Learning- Maryland Hall 242 How to effectively use Zoom video conferencing to facilitate synchronous learning. Presenter: Robert Kenyon (Digital Teaching and Learning) 3. Multimedia Production- College Center 114 How to create effective multimedia productions. Presenter:Gregory Hoplamazian (Communication) 4. Creative Convergence?: Writing and Getting students to engage with written assignments can at times be challenging in today's technology focused world. Hear how one faculty member is trying to incorporate various new technologies into writing assignments in an effort to stimulate creativity and engagement. Presenter:Sara Magee (Communication) 5. Remote Teaching: Snow Days and Other Life happens. Sometimes we are able to teach but not able to get to our classrooms, either due to snow days, family emergencies, or medical issues. Our workshop will demonstrate our own approaches to remote teaching using a combination of special assignments, Course-Cast videos, and Moodle discussion boards. Accessify Your Syllabus- Maryland Hall 244 In this interactive workshop, you will learn to assess, modify, and evaluate the accessibility of one of your course syllabi. You will walk away with an accessible syllabus and a better understanding of barriers to accessibility for your students. You are asked to bring a laptop and an electronic syllabus with you. There are two rotations of the workshop to allow participants to choose their preferred time.*sessions times listed below. Session times:

Advising as Teaching (10 a.m. - 1 p.m., 4th Floor Program Room)
As an advisor, you interact with students in several ways. You are a source of information about our requirements and policies; you may also serve as a mentor and resource in the developmental process as students learn how to navigate the institution. But your most important task is as a teacher. How can an advisor be viewed as a teacher and the advising relationship as a learning experience for students? Come to this workshop to learn more about how the advising as teacher model can facilitate and enhance academic learning. The goal of this workshop is that you will have some tools for helping students to become active participants in the making of meaning of their curriculum choices and aiding their understanding of how our curriculum relates to mission.
