About Us
The Counseling Center offers experienced professionals who can help you explore many different concerns. We value each person for their unique personality, perspective, background, and culture. Many students visit The Counseling Center to explore life transitions and their own identities.
We encourage students to use our free, confidential services. Our counselors provide safe, supportive, and caring relationships for exploring your concerns. Understanding a situation before it reaches a stage of crisis can make a big difference. We encourage you to come in, even if you are not sure if counseling is what you need. With a counselor's help, you can discuss alternatives and decide the best way to proceed. Learn What to Expect when you schedule an appointment at The Counseling Center.
If you feel that you are being treated unjustly by others, we would like to offer our help. Insensitivity to others and discrimination in any form is inconsistent with Loyola’s mission and values. Our counseling services and programs actively promote an awareness of and sensitivity toward differences of race, gender identity and expression, ethnicity, national origin, culture, sexual orientation, age, physical and mental abilities, religious/spiritual beliefs, financial status, and size/body shape among members of the Loyola community. We are here to help you or your student group explore the impact of cultural differences among students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
In addition to seeking support through The Counseling Center, you may anonymously report bias-related incidents to the Dean of Students Office.
Mission Statement
The Loyola University Maryland Counseling Center supports student growth and learning by providing developmentally-oriented psychological services and programs to help students maintain their emotional well-being and achieve their educational and personal goals. We promote a healthy and inclusive community through relationship-building, education, crisis intervention, and support. Our mission is inspired by the core values of our Jesuit university to encourage life-long learning, development of the whole person, self-reflection, values clarification, and spiritual development in a diverse and changing world.
The Counseling Center is Accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc.
Protecting a Climate of Safety and Respect
Our aim is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for students, our community, and our administrative and clinical staff. We invite all who we interact with (including students, families/guardians, and community members) to help us create safe and positive experiences for everyone.
We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free environment that affirms and celebrates all forms of diversity including race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, social class, ability status, physical appearance, body size, and religious status. Expected behavior includes exercising consideration and respect for others and recognizing ways that an individual's power and privilege can be intentionally and unintentionally communicated in an effort to impact others' decision-making.
Intimidation, physical aggression, abuse, harassment, or disruptive conduct may lead to discontinuation of services at the Counseling Center. Students and families should understand that Counseling Center professional staff are licensed and supervised clinicians who are highly trained in the provision of mental health care with a specialty working with college students. Our recommendations are based on what we believe will provide you the most effective form of treatment, which may include group counseling, workshops, short-term individual therapy, and/or comprehensive referral assistance to connect with treatment off-campus.
Questions or grievances may be shared with your counselor or another representative of the Counseling Center team.
