Current Students

Loyola's psychology department offers plenty of ways for students to get involved.

Student Organizations

Our faculty, alumni, and students are affiliated with several clubs and organizations related to the field of psychology. Loyola hosts chapters of Psi Chi (the National Honor Society in Psychology) and Phi Beta Kappa (the nation's oldest and most widely known academic honor in Psychology). The department is also affiliated with the Maryland Psychological Association of Graduate Students.

Undergraduate Field Experience

Undergraduate students are encouraged to consider PY 435 - Field Experience in Psychology. Students are able to engage in supervised experiences that are designed to develop psychological skills in a practical setting.

Graduate Externships

Externship training is completed through Loyola's large and diverse network of externship sites in the greater Baltimore-Washington area that range from world-famous academic medical centers to small group practices allowing students to tailor their training and experience to their clinical interests. Externships are required for both the master's and doctoral degrees.

Mentoring

Many psychology students benefit from mentorship relationships with faculty members. Students may have the opportunity to assist faculty in research, gaining real-life, hands-on experience.

Research

The psychology department supports students' independent research in several ways. Students can register for independent study to conduct research under a faculty member for credit. Loyola offers several opportunities for funding and awards related to research. Presentation opportunities are also available.
