Student Summer Programs

The Center for the Humanities offers students grants for Undergraduate students on topics in the Humanities. Two different grants are available with all the application and proposal details on the Center for the Humanities website.

Student Summer Fellowships support work on scholarly or creative projects in the humanities. The Center offers up to $4000 to the student who needs a faculty mentor for the project. A paper is turned in at the end of the summer outlining the work and reflection.

Stipends for Summer Study Programs offer up to $5k for costs related to a course in the humanities disciplines. The course can be taken anywhere in the world, although the stipends do not cover travel expenses.

Joshua Ziesel, '17

Joshua Ziesel Class of 2017, Honors Student, Classics major, received a Student Research Fellowship to investigate a corpus-based linguistic study of Greek tragic interjections in Roman new comedy., “A Corpus-Based Linguistic Study of Greek Tragic Interjections in Roman New Comedy." Josh also received a Summer Study Program grant to attend the Goethe Institut in Berlin to study German.

 

Kelly Mueller, '18

Kelly Mueller, Honors Student, Classics and History major, had a grant which allowed her to accept an otherwise unpaid internship with the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland, Ohio.

 

Rebeccah Swerdlow, '17

Rebeccah Swerdlow, History and Art History major, had a Student Research Fellowship to conduct research and argue that John Everett Millais alludes to Homer’s character Penelope in his painting Marianna (1851, Tate Britain).

Ian McNeely, '17

Ian McNeely, Honors Student, Classics and History major, had a Student Research Fellowship to research “The Female Ideal: Representation and Myth in Heliodorus’ Aithiopika,” a third century novel.

Katie Wright, '17

Katie Wright, Honors Student, Classical Civilization and History major, received a grant for a Student Summer Program to participate in two archaeological digs, one in Portugal and one in Romania.
