Loyola University Maryland’s Simon Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship received a 2025 Empowering Women Award from The Daily Record. The award recognizes organizations committed to supporting and elevating women in Maryland.

“We are thrilled to be in such great company among the honorees for the Empowering Women Awards,” said Wendy Bolger, founding director of Loyola’s Simon Center. “Supporting Baltimore’s women entrepreneurs is a foundational piece of our mission, and it keeps us busy, as women of color are starting businesses at 4.5 times the rate of all businesses, and woman-owned businesses are growing two times faster than the U.S. average.”

The Daily Record selected honorees based on the hiring and promoting of women, leadership positions held by women, advocacy for the cause of women internally and externally, and efforts to cultivate the next generation of women professionals. The Daily Record is a news media company focused on law, government, and business in Maryland.

The Simon Center’s flagship Baltipreneurs Accelerator program supports startup and social ventures. In addition, the center provides funding through the Loyola Angel Fund, a $250,000 charitable fund prioritizing investment support for minority- and women-owned businesses. The center has offered legal clinics led by prominent women attorneys and community programming, such as a film screening and expert panel designed to help women in business.
