Supporting Students with Literacy Strategies: Increasing the Number of Completed Assignments

View the poster >>

Abstract:

This study examines the low completion rate for in-class assignments in an American Government course. More than half of the students in this high school course failed one or more quarters due to not submitting or in some cases not attempting their in-class assignments. In this study, note taking strategies were implemented and content for the assignments was selected to be more aligned to the students’ experiences. The strategies resulted in higher assignment completion rate and more students earning a passing grade in this course.
