Sport Programs

Tyler Zorn joined the Loyola University Maryland Department of Recreation and Wellness in May of 2022 as the Assistant Director of Sport Programs. In this role, he oversees the university’s 23 club sport teams and all their coaches/student officers. Tyler also supervises the intramural sports program, working closely with 9 Intramural Supervisors and more than 40 student officials. In addition, Tyler manages the Esports club, which currently has more than 100 members and fields competitive teams in 6 different video games.

Originally from Long Island, New York, Tyler earned his bachelor’s degree in communication from Loyola in January 2022. After graduation, he worked as the Competitive Sports Intern for a semester before accepting the full-time position. As a student at Loyola, Tyler was an Intramural Supervisor in charge of running the basketball program, and a dedicated student official. He was also a starting pitcher on the club baseball team. Prior to Loyola, Tyler graduated from Regis High School, a Jesuit high school in New York City.

Outside of this position, Tyler is very passionate about basketball officiating. He started as a referee when he was 13 years old, officiating rec leagues at the local church in his hometown. Tyler continued his officiating career in college when he became an intramural basketball official, refereeing 5 intramural championship games during his undergraduate years. When he was 19 years old, Tyler began officiating high school basketball in Baltimore City. This past year, he advanced into the collegiate and semi-professional ranks. For this upcoming season Tyler will officiate both public and private high school basketball in Baltimore and the surrounding counties, NCAA basketball at the DII and DIII levels, and minor league basketball with the American Basketball Association.

Tyler is a suffering sports fan, rooting for the New York Mets, Jets, Knicks, and Islanders. None of his teams have won a championship during his lifetime, but Tyler stays optimistic, nonetheless. He enjoys exploring Baltimore, and its many unique neighborhoods and eateries.
