Timeline
The following information is intended to provide guidance to tenure-track faculty members on the process of applying for a tenure-track research leave. While the timeline and activities for each faculty member will vary, this provides an overview for those faculty members who are planning to apply in their third year for a research leave in the fourth year. It is recommended to begin the process early!
Year 1
- Meet with ORSP and the chair to discuss research interests
- Working with ORSP, identify 1-5 good prospects for external funding
Year 2
- Submit pre-application (summer before or early fall)
- Pre-application approved (fall)
- Work with ORSP on proposal development (throughout process)
Year 3
- Following the routing process, submit proposal to external funding agency (year 3 or before)
- Submit final application for tenure-track research leave
- Notification of leave approval
Year 4
- Take research leave

Research Expense Funds
Limited funds are available for tenured or tenure-track faculty members to cover expenses for research or scholarship. Preference given to activity that supports grant-seeking. See Research/Scholarship Expense Funds for more information.
