Senior Sabbatical Leave
Senior Sabbatical Applications are due by 5 p.m. on the first Monday in October.
Faculty members applying for senior sabbatical leave are reminded that electronic copies of the application, as well as the required departmental letter of support, must be submitted electronically via the web form no later than 5 p.m. on the first Monday in October.
In preparing applications, faculty should consult the sabbatical leave guidelines and sabbatical application format. In addition, the departmental coverage form, is to be completed by the department chair and submitted online at the time of the application.
NOTE: Tenured full-time faculty members are eligible for sabbatical leave upon the satisfactory completion of six years in the service of the University since the academic year of the last sabbatical leave. Please review example scenarios below for additional information:
Example Scenarios
If a faculty member was approved in Fall 2016, they have either
A. Taken their sabbatical in the next academic year, which would be AY 17- 18.
OR
B. Deferred their sabbatical.
In scenario (A), six years after their sabbatical would be AY 23-24. The earliest the faculty can submit another application would be Fall 2023 in order to take sabbatical leave in AY 24-25.
In scenario (B), if the sabbatical is deferred with approval from the Chair and Dean, the faculty member may apply for their next sabbatical in the academic year six years after the academic year in which the sabbatical was approved, not the academic year in which the deferred sabbatical was taken.
Faculty members are encouraged to carefully review the guidelines to be certain that they are familiar with all requirements.
