Student Steering Committee

The Simon Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Student Steering Committee is an integral part of the success of our Center. We rely on our Committee to provide leadership for key activities of the Center and act as our Ambassadors on campus. Applicants for a 1-year term can come from any class or major. Steering Committee graduates are ambitious, curious, lifelong learners. They have gone on to their first choices in jobs and graduate school programs with support and introductions from the Center.

What's in it for you?

Committee members have irreplaceable experiences as campus and community changemakers. Each committee member works with the cohort and the center staff to support key events and programming. Committee members have an opportunity to get involved in the active local entrepreneurial ecosystem in Baltimore—including startups and social enterprises, to work in teams, to practice innovation and leadership skills, and will develop close relationships with innovation faculty, administrators, and other student leaders. Steering Committee Members in good standing (i.e. meeting required hours) are welcome to ask Simon Center leadership for introductions, references, and other career and personal development support.

Expectations

• Attend 3 evening Zoom meetings with the steering cohort each semester
• Attend the SCI&E monthly innovation events (usually Friday lunch or afternoon)
• Schedule a check in with the Entrepreneur in Residence or Founding Director once per semester
• Devote a minimum of 10 hours to the Steering Committee and the Center each semester, tracked on the Bridge 

Positions

• Chair - Significant leadership opportunity to oversee all committee operations and supporting committee in fulfilling their roles, leading meetings, and ensuring all events and activities align with our mission

• Vice-Chair - supports the Chair and Committee Leads, steps in in Chair’s absence

• Engagement Lead - Partner with departments and student clubs across the university to identify questions and areas of inquiry in which to engage the student body. Post questions on the “How Might We” pillar in the College Center. Monitor responses and pillar supplies. Report out engagement and community responses back to the community.

• Marketing Lead – Help spread the word about Center activities and opportunities, and staff Center events

• Baltipreneurs Lead – Engage with local startups and entrepreneurs in support of Loyola’s Baltipreneurs Accelerator

• Academic Lead -  Support the Entrepreneur in Residence, connect with an interdisciplinary group of faculty members, and promote the minor in Innovation & Entrepreneurship

• Offsites Lead – Organize one off campus visit/semester to a local maker space, tech firm, or Baltipreneur startup operation to introduce students to innovative working environments

• My Project Lead - Describe an innovative project you want to lead, and we will consider you for a place on the Steering Committee, where you will receive full backing of your initiative from the SCI&E
