ALANA Services joins the rest of the Loyola community in expressing our grief, sorrow, and compassion for the racial injustices and tragedies that have been occurring across our nation.
History
ALANA Services was established in the fall of 1993 as a part of the division of Student Development. Formerly Minority Student Services, ALANA Student Services was renamed in spring 2001.
Renovation to the third floor of the Student Center began in May 2018 and continued through the summer. The renovation project was completed in August 2018 and resulted in a new Center for Intercultural Engagement (formerly the Claver Multicultural Center), as well as an updated ALANA Services and Student Activities (now Student Engagement) office suite, and new additions that include the SGA Conference Room, Pride Resource Room, an additional conference room, and gender-neutral restrooms.
Throughout its history, the office has served as a strong cultural and social base where all members of the Loyola community can learn about the concerns and cultures of ALANA students.
Mission Statement
ALANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Native American) Services is committed to providing holistic support to students from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, first-generation college, and interfaith identities. We strive to cultivate an inclusive community through intentional programming and outreach that promotes an environment valuing belonging, diversity, equity, respect, inclusion, and access. Furthermore, we aim to address systemic barriers and challenges that impact student success through advocacy and empowerment of historically marginalized groups, and ensuring each student who engages with ALANA graduates from and thrives at Loyola and beyond.
Statement of Diversity
Loyola values the benefits of diversity. ALANA Services is committed to creating a community which recognizes the inherent quality and dignity of each individual. Hence, ALANA Services actively promotes an awareness of, and sensitivity to, differences based on race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, culture, sexual orientation, religion, age, and disability. It is the intent of ALANA Services to support ALANA students and the entire Loyola community by enriching the minds of all in regards to the beauty of diversity.
