Biography

Miya Carey-Agyemang earned her Ph.D in History from Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Carey-Agyemang’s areas of specialization include 20th century African American and U.S. Women’s and Gender History, and the history of childhood. Her current book project explores coming of age and Black girlhood in 20th century Washington, D.C.

Carey-Agyemang co-edited Scarlet and Black Volume III: Making Black Lives Matter at Rutgers, 1945-2020 and published an article in Washington History on the connections between Girl Scouting and the civil rights movement in the nation’s capital.
