Professional Licensure Disclosure
Professional Licensure and Certification
Professional licensure or certification helps ensure that individuals working in fields where professional licensure or certification is required, have the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for their job. Individual states, territories, or districts usually regulate the requirements to obtain and maintain a professional licensure or certification enabling individuals to work within that state or jurisdiction.
Loyola Programs Meeting Professional Licensure/Certification Requirements
Loyola University Maryland offers several programs leading to professional licensure or certification within the State of Maryland. All licensure and certification programs offered at Loyola University Maryland are designed to prepare students to apply for licensure or certification exams in the state of Maryland.
Does This Program Meet Professional Licensure or Certification Outside of Maryland?
Loyola University Maryland works to confirm whether our programs prepare students to meet the educational prerequisites for professional licensure or certification outside of Maryland. States and other jurisdictions vary in what professions they require to be licensed and the requirements for licensure within their borders. States and other U.S. jurisdictions may include additional requirements for licensure and certification beyond the educational requirements. These additional requirements may include professional examinations, work experience, security checks, and other requirements specific to that state or jurisdiction.
Individuals seeking professional licensure or certification outside of Maryland should check the disclosure links at the bottom of the page for each of our professional licensure or certification programs to see the states where Loyola’s program meets or does not meet the current licensure/certification requirements of those jurisdictions.
Federal regulations 34 CFR 668.14(b)(32) governing professional licensure/certification programs in the United States require all professional licensure/certification programs to disclose whether they “Meet or “Do not Meet” the licensure/certification requirements of each state, territory, or district. Indicating “Unable to Determine” is considered a “Does Not Meet” state/jurisdiction. Loyola University Maryland reviews licensure/certification requirements of each state/jurisdiction and updates its website at least once annually. Although Loyola works diligently to verify the licensure/certification requirements of other states, states can change their regulations at any time without any structured notification. Loyola encourages students who plan to work outside of Maryland to check with the licensing board of the state they plan to work in to confirm licensing/certification requirements and inquire about any pending changes to the current requirements.
Current Students and Relocation
A student enrolled in a Loyola licensure/certification program who relocates to another state should be aware of the licensure/certification requirements for that state. If planning to work in the relocated state, Loyola recommends reviewing Loyola’s State Requirements for Professional Licensure/Certification Programs (see link below) as well as contacting the licensing board for the state in question to determine licensure/certification requirements in the relocated state. Students who relocate should notify the university and program of their new address.
NC-SARA
Loyola University Maryland is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). Membership allows us to provide distance education programs to individuals located in other states. All states with the exception of California participate in SARA (as a non-public higher education institution that is accredited, degree granting, and non-profit, Loyola University Maryland is exempt from approval by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education). SARA membership, however, does not grant reciprocity or exempt students from state professional licensure requirements. Additionally, host states requiring approval of supervised field experiences by agencies or boards responsible for fields requiring licensure or certification for practice remain in effect.
