President Terrence M. Sawyer, J.D., and his wife, Courtney Sawyer, M.S. ’93, greet students as they move in for the Fall 2026 semester.

When I first started working at Loyola 28 years ago, part of my role was to strengthen our relationship with our neighbors. We were involved in some challenging conversations as we worked to build bridges, listen to the hopes and dreams of area residents, and figure out how we could work together to apply our ideas, skills, and resources to partner and strengthen our community.

Over the years, those conversations have continued, even as I’ve moved into new roles—including my current position as the 25th president of Loyola. I’ve had the pleasure of watching Loyola evolve in how we support and accompany our neighbors. Our most recent enhancements to the Loyola Community Center at 5104 York Road demonstrate our commitment to the communities along York Road. But they also highlight the state and federal recognition of the work we are all involved in together. This partnership has become a national model for place-based justice, and we are honored to walk with our neighbors in strengthening Baltimore.

What an exciting time to be at Loyola. Since we launched our strategic plan, Together We Rise, in 2024, we have challenged ourselves to grow and stretch and achieve more—for us and for the greater glory of God. And you can see the impact.

It’s the perfect moment to introduce our refreshed brand campaign, Moved To Be More, which reflects all we’ve done and all we hope to do in the future. It captures the strength of our community, the momentum of our strategic plan, and our ongoing commitment to preparing graduates who are ready to lead meaningful lives and make a difference in the world.

In this issue, you’ll learn more about the latest news from Loyola, including how we are preparing our graduates through new academic programs as we remain committed to our identity and mission as a Jesuit, liberal arts university. You’ll also meet some of our alumni who are making a difference in their communities.

I hope that your Loyola education also inspires you and that you feel Moved To Be More. We are so proud of all we are achieving here on the Evergreen campus, in Baltimore, and—thanks to you— throughout the world.
