Stories We Tell Course Pairing
Effective Writing (WR 100)
Introduces students to the discipline of writing in the university through the critical and creative study of the contemporary essay within a rhetorical framework. Students learn to conceive an original idea, develop implications of thought, use language effectively, and conduct inquiry (including basic library research). Students develop a full writing process--planning, drafting, revising based on critical feedback from peers and instructor, and editing. Provides a foundation for both faculty and students to build upon as students move across the curriculum.

Multimedia Storytelling (CM 308)
A practical exploration of how multimedia stories are crafted and their audience effects in news, persuasion, and entertainment. Students produce their own media stories in a variety of formats and strategies, apply design and aesthetic principles, and consider their legal and ethical responsibilities as media storytellers.

Mentor Biography
Kristi Yowell serves as Loyola's Chief People & Culture Officer/Associate Vice President for Human Resources. She began working with the Messina program in 2025 and brings previous experience working with first year students at other colleges and universities. In addition to her work at Loyola, Kristi has taught undergraduate and graduate coursework at other area colleges and universities since 2004. Kristi also previously served on the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) national board from 2001 - 2004.
