Cura Conversations

The Office of Equity and Inclusion, The Thrive Center for Student Success, The Counseling Center, Campus Ministry, and The Office of Human Resources are excited to launch Loyola's Cura Conversations Series. This lunchtime dialogue series addresses critical topics through the lens of compassion, curiosity, and care. Open to all members of the Loyola Community! 

Breaking Barriers: Navigating the Bias, Harassment, and Discrimination Reporting Process

Friday, February 28, 2025;  12:00-1:30PM; Cohn Hall 133

Join us for an informative session on Loyola University Maryland’s Bias Reporting Process, designed to help students and employees recognize, report, and respond to incidents of bias in our community. Facilitated by David Tiscione and Nikia Woodard, this session will provide an overview of the reporting system, explain how reports are reviewed and addressed, and outline available support resources. Through discussion, participants will gain a clearer understanding of their role in fostering an inclusive and respectful campus environment. Open to students, faculty, and staff interested in learning more about the bias reporting process and their role in promoting equity and inclusion at Loyola.

Advocacy in Action

Are you in a space of uncertainty? Unsure of how to navigate with the many changes shaping today’s climate? Come and join our Cura Conversation dialogue space on Friday, March 14, 2025, to discuss Advocacy in Action - - actionable steps for workplace/community advocacy and allyship. Advocacy in Action refers to the proactive and dynamic process of promoting a cause or policy through tangible, real-world efforts. It’s about turning core beliefs and values into concrete actions that foster social change. Participants will be invited to engage in conversation, reflective exercise, and small group interactive activity. 

Developing Proactively Supportive & Trauma-Informed Environments

Centering members of the LGBTQ+ community, join us as we explore ways to make Loyola affirming for all in relation to physical space, interpersonal interactions, and policies and practices. Learn how to foster a campus culture that affirms and supports LGBTQ+ individuals and creates inclusive physical spaces that promote belonging and safety. Facilitated by Pat Cassidy and Jessica David, this session will provide an overview of how colleagues, students, and campus community members bring with them all of who they are and all that they have experienced.

Dialogue and Religious Pluralism: Communicating across Religious Differences and Beyond.

Join us as we explore the differences between debate and dialogue while gaining insight into effective guidelines for communicating across religious differences and more. Facilitated by the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies (ICJS), this workshop will consist of two main components. The first part will explore ICJS’ theory of dialogue in depth, delving into how it can foster mutual understanding. In the second part, participants will engage in a thoughtful discussion on the presence of religion in public spaces and the reasons why dismantling bias requires us to learn how to talk about religion and diversity. 

Racial Harm: Exploring the Gap Between Intention and Impact

Pulse Check

Friday, November 8th, 2024;  12:00-1:30PM; Sellinger VIP Lounge

Pulse Check, happening on November 8, 2024, is a reflective and community-centered session. The session aims to assess the overall sentiment within the LUMD community in the wake of recent Cura Conversations and the post-election climate. Participants will introduce themselves, engage in a grounding activity, and adhere to community guidelines that emphasize compassionate listening, personal sharing, and staying present. The dialogue will explore past reflections from previous sessions, address current concerns, and discuss future steps for self-care and community building.
